Franco Colapinto stays at Alpine for the 2027 FIA Formula One World Championship season, and honestly, this one felt inevitable. BWT Alpine Formula One Team has confirmed that Franco Colapinto will continue alongside Pierre Gasly, making it a third consecutive season together. Big news. Deserved news.
Colapinto stays at Alpine after a breakthrough 2026 campaign
Franco has been on fire this season. He has already banked 19 world championship points across 12 Grands Prix, scoring in six of them. A tenth in China got things moving, then a career-best seventh in Miami raised eyebrows. Then came Montréal, where he delivered a stunning sixth-place finish that showed real maturity and tenacity from the young Argentine.
At just 23 years old and with 38 starts under his belt, Colapinto is no longer a prospect. He is a genuine Formula One driver delivering at the highest level. The team knows it. Flavio Briatore knows it. And now it is official.
Briatore makes his feelings crystal clear
Flavio Briatore did not hold back. “We have seen Franco truly grow and mature into a great driver this year,” he said. “
His results in Miami and Montréal especially confirmed what I already knew: Franco belongs in Formula One and he belongs at this team.” Strong words from someone who does not throw compliments around lightly.
Briatore also stressed that driver stability is only one piece of the puzzle. His words: “The most significant we have to get right is designing and building a fast race car, which absolutely remains our number one priority.” So the message from Enstone is clear. The lineup is sorted. Now build the rocket.
What Colapinto staying at Alpine means for the team
This is bigger than just one driver announcement. Alpine currently sits P6 in the Constructors’ Championship after a strong first half of the 2026 season. The team has scored double points on four separate occasions this year, in China, Canada, Barcelona and Great Britain. That kind of consistency does not happen by accident.
Keeping Colapinto alongside Gasly gives the team exactly what it needs heading into the next phase of its development. Pierre is one of the most experienced drivers on the Formula 1 grid and has been described as the ideal teammate for a driver of Franco’s profile. Together they have pushed Alpine forward, and that partnership now has real runway to develop further.
Franco’s own take on continuing with the team
Colapinto himself sounded genuinely happy, not just relieved. “I feel very happy and very settled here and it has been even better that we have made significant progress this year compared to last,” he said. “Our long-term goals are obvious: to compete and win.” No fluff. No corporate speak. Just a driver who knows where he wants to go.
He also made a point of thanking the team, Briatore and team principal Steve for their trust. That relationship with Enstone clearly means a lot to him. He has spoken openly about viewing it as his true home in Formula One, and you can hear that sentiment in every word of his statement.
Heading to Monza with momentum and an upgraded A526
The timing of this announcement is no coincidence. Almost exactly twelve months ago, it was Gasly making his own commitment ahead of the Monza race week. Now it is Franco’s turn to get his moment in the spotlight before the Italian Grand Prix. The symmetry is a nice touch from the team.
Even better, Colapinto stays at Alpine heading into Monza with an upgraded A526 package available to race. So he goes into one of the most iconic tracks on the calendar with confirmed future security, team backing and fresh machinery. If that does not get you fired up for qualifying, nothing will.
Franco made his Formula One debut alongside Gasly at the 2025 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, and the two have been building something real ever since. The fact that Alpine is now locking in that combination through at least the 2027 season tells you everything about the direction this team is heading. Upward. Together. Fast.
