The Golden Horse II wins the 24H2CV at Spa, Prince Aymeric second in the sister car

The #16 Dyane of Piette, Dupont and Blaise beats the #14 by 2 minutes 37 seconds after 320 laps, while the #231 Gaban C1 climbs from 45th on the grid to third and wins the C1 class

The #16 The Golden Horse II has won the 24H2CV/C1 at Spa-Francorchamps. The Dyane of Sebastien Piette, Pierre Dupont and Jean-Pierre Blaise completed 320 laps and finished 2 minutes 37.705 seconds ahead of its sister car, the #14 The Golden Horse I, in which Prince Aymeric of Belgium was one of five drivers. That is the provisional classification published by RIS timing after the flag at 17:00 local time (CET, 12:00 ET) on Sunday.

RNT was trackside all weekend: our photographer Adrian Jeziorski followed the race through a wet night at Spa.

A C1 led on Sunday morning, a Dyane won

For most of Sunday the race belonged to the Citroën C1s. When we checked the live timing at 11:23 on Sunday, with five and a half hours to go, the #231 Gaban Motorsport C1 led the #293 JD Racing C1 by less than half a second, and the #16 Dyane ran third, one lap down.

The Golden Horse cars came through in the final hours. Both Dyanes finished on 320 laps, the same as the #231 C1, but ahead on total time. The #14 even set the fastest lap of the two Golden Horse cars, a 3:16.372 against 3:22.004 for the winning #16.

From 45th on the grid to the C1 class win

The #231 Gaban Motorsport C1 of Olivier Palmaers, Andy Gaban and Maverick Dessy started 45th and finished third overall, 3 minutes 5.252 seconds behind the winner. That made it the winner of the CUP class for Citroën C1s. The #293 JD Racing C1 was second in class, one lap down, and the #327 JFP C1 third, two laps down.

In the class for 2CVs and Dyanes, the #18 2CV Passion by Trapanelle 1 completed an all-Dyane podium behind the two Golden Horse cars, 318 laps after 24 hours.

111 cars, pole for a Dyane

The official starting grid lists 111 cars: C1s, 2CVs, Dyanes and a Burton. The #65 VDS Racing Andorra Dyane started from pole with a 3:20.487.

The rain made the night hard. The #241 Zeknova Performance Tires C1 was among the early leaders until a stop of more than 37 minutes in the pits dropped it back. It recovered to 16th overall by the finish.

The other class winners, according to the RIS class classification: #52 Crisis Racing (G), #98 Retro Racing Team (C), #10 JMCE 10 (T), #31 2PK Racing Team (P), #36 Tolteam Racing Argentina (A), #78 Burton Gascard (X), #566 Molkenboer-autosport 2 (EUR) and #281 AutoUna by Emax-MRT (INV).

Our read

A 24-hour race decided by 2 minutes 37 seconds after 320 laps is close for any category, let alone for cars built on a 2CV. What stands out is how the Dyanes managed the race: the C1s led on Sunday morning, but the Golden Horse crews were still lapping at the same pace when it mattered. Having a prince in the car brought the cameras to Spa. The result shows the Golden Horse team came to win, with two cars.
