How Leclerc silences critics with his British GP win
Leclerc was asked in the post-race press conference what victory in the British GP meant to him, considering 624 days had passed since his last win, at the 2024 United States Grand Prix. His answer was honest and direct.
The Ferrari driver had scored just four points from the previous three rounds before arriving at Silverstone. After recording back-to-back DNFs in Monaco and Barcelona, the Ferrari driver had to settle for P8 in Austria, having fallen backwards from what had been a promising P2 in qualifying. The pressure was very real. And Leclerc silences critics British GP win style, delivering when it mattered most.
What Leclerc said about the negative narratives
Leclerc said there were “narratives being created” and a “lot of negativity around me” before his return to the top step at the British Grand Prix.
He was clear about how he dealt with it. “I think whenever there’s so much negativity around, it’s not something so nice to see. You try to cancel the noise as much as possible.” Despite his bounce-back win, Leclerc rejected the suggestion that recent negative noise had fuelled him to prove his critics wrong. That is a mature and honest answer from a driver under enormous scrutiny.
“But to keep our heads down and to keep working very hard and get the result that we got today, I’m super proud of the whole team that have been pushing me and helping me to find that feeling again with the car.”

The crucial setup changes that unlocked the win
This was not just luck. Leclerc silences critics British GP victory was built on a specific technical decision. After grand prix qualifying, Leclerc spoke about facing a choice: between completely adjusting his driving style to replicate what Hamilton had been doing, or trying to find a way to bring the Ferrari setup into a place where Leclerc could do what comes naturally to him. “I went towards the second route,” he confirmed.
What is noticeable from telemetry data is that Leclerc’s qualifying traces showed a driver who was much more confident applying the throttle. Between Village and The Loop he was much more aggressive than the day before; the same between Brooklands and Luffield. There was no visible lift off the throttle at Copse.
This would suggest that Leclerc had more confidence in how much rear grip his Ferrari was producing, and also that maybe Ferrari dialled in a setup that allowed him to rotate the car better through those corners. How chaos helped Leclerc clinch it at Silverstone
Leclerc was very good all race. But fortune also played its part. On Lap 41, championship leader Kimi Antonelli experienced an issue with his car, which the team suggested was a left front wheel shield failure. Antonelli’s tyre offset meant he soon had the gap down to just over two seconds and the win looked inevitable, before Antonelli started shouting “something’s broken on the car.”
Verstappen was on course for a podium until he spun into the gravel at Stowe late on, triggering the Safety Car that froze the race and allowed Leclerc to take his first victory at Silverstone. The Grand Prix ultimately ended under the Safety Car, and Leclerc crossed the line to seal victory, marking his ninth career win and first at Silverstone.

What this win means for the 2026 title fight
Leclerc is honest that one win does not change everything. “It’s only one race and I must not get carried away thinking that the war is over. The battle with this car has been quite a lot recently and I cannot take it for granted that now it’s behind me. So, I’ll keep working and try to get that feeling more often going ahead.”
Leclerc is fourth in the Drivers’ standings, 39 points behind team-mate Hamilton and 11 ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris. The battle inside Ferrari between Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton remains one of the most fascinating storylines of the season. Silverstone showed that Leclerc is very much still in this fight. When he finds that feeling, he is as fast as anyone on the grid.
