Sainz shuts down transfer rumors to reaffirm Williams commitment

Carlos Sainz has firmly dismissed ongoing paddock speculation linking him with an early exit to a higher-performing team next season, completely doubling down on his long-term allegiance to Williams.

Despite the iconic Grove-based squad navigating a turbulent phase on track, the Spanish driver made it unequivocally clear that his sporting focus remains tied to guiding the team back toward the sharp end of the grid.

A mutual commitment to the long-term vision

Sainz’s arrival at Williams was heralded as a cornerstone signing for the team’s rebuilding era. However, with the driver market remaining highly volatile, rumors have naturally circulated regarding whether the Spaniard would look elsewhere to secure a more immediately competitive seat.

Speaking ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, Sainz completely clarified that his internal dialogue with team principal James Vowles remains perfectly aligned.

“I think we’ve made it mutual across one another that the ideal scenario and the ideal path moving forward for me has always been Williams and has always been seeing the progress of this team and continuing to help this team become a competitive team,” Sainz stated.

While acknowledging that structural contractual decisions are a standard part of the yearly cycle, Sainz was adamant about where his loyalties rest.

“I know I obviously need to take a decision this year about my future but at the same time, I made it very clear to Williams and to my management team that my priority is to make this project work.

“When I did the commitment a couple of years ago to come here, it was with the commitment of trying to make this work and I wish we can do that,” the Spaniard added.

The 2030 win target

The campaign hasn’t been smooth sailing, with Williams encountering technical hurdles that have temporarily halted their upward momentum.

Rather than being discouraged by the setback, Sainz viewed the current slump as a challenge he is determined to resolve, keeping his eyes fixed on a realistic timeline for podiums and victories.

“Obviously this year we’ve hit a bit of a big bump that we didn’t expect and now all my attention and focus is to try and get this team out of the bump as soon as possible.

“I think we were maybe looking [at] about 2029 podiums consistently, and the 2030 the win. I knew there was not going to be any winning in Williams until at least ’28, ’29, ’30. It is true that we’ve just been through a pretty big bump in the road to recovery,” Sainz admitted candidly.
