Aitken snatches pole in dramatic Hyperpole

The 24H Le Mans Hyperpole session for the Hypercar class delivered a breathtaking twist. For most of Hyperpole 2, Dries Vanthoor looked untouchable, his lap was so strong that it seemed impossible anyone would get close.

But in the dying moments, Jack Aitken unleashed a stunning lap for Cadillac, beating Vanthoor by just five thousandths of a second. A pole position at Le Mans decided by 0.005 seconds is the kind of drama that defines this race.

Cadillac’s speed wasn’t a surprise, they had already shown their hand in yesterday’s first qualifying session, but delivering on that promise in Hyperpole is something else entirely. Just look at Aston Martin and Alpine: both were widely expected to fight at the front, yet neither team managed to turn their early potential into a real challenge.

Instead, the battle for pole became a straight duel between Cadillac and BMW, proving that raw pace under pressure is what truly counts at Le Mans.

Toyota suffered a major embarrassment: both cars were eliminated already in the first Hyperpole session and failed to reach the top ten. Ferrari didn’t fare much better, one car dropped out early, and the only Ferrari that made it into Hyperpole 2 could do no more than ninth.

Cadillac and BMW showcased real pace, while Alpine and Aston Martin, expected by many to challenge at the front, ended up stuck in the midfield. A 24‑hour race is long and unpredictable, but one thing is already clear: Cadillac has speed, BMW is right there with them, and several big names have work to do.
