Will Buxton F1 Bombshell: “Absolutely Massive” Announcement Coming Today

Paddock tension rises as Buxton’s tease sparks fresh speculation around Verstappen’s future.

Will Buxton F1 Hint sets the paddock on fire

Will Buxton is making waves again. The British motorsport journalist and former F1TV presenter took to social media today, July 6, 2026, to drop a cryptic but explosive hint. “I’m hearing there’s a huge announcement coming before the end of the day. If it’s what I think it is, it’s absolutely monumental,” Buxton wrote on his X account, immediately fuelling speculation.

The post sent the motorsport world into a frenzy. And it is easy to see why.

Why Buxton’s Words Always Matter

This is not the first time Buxton has done this. Back on January 31, 2024, Buxton announced that the Formula 1 paddock would be shaken by news of enormous proportions before the end of that week. The news turned out to be the official confirmation of Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari.

So when he speaks, people listen. This time, he appears to be teasing another story that could become the biggest bombshell of the Formula 1 summer, an announcement capable of reshaping the balance of power throughout the paddock. Check out our coverage of the huge announcement breaking today.

Is This About Max Verstappen?

If Buxton is hinting at something in Formula 1, attention quickly turns to news surrounding Max Verstappen. The Dutchman is unhappy, with Red Bull’s RB22 unable to secure victories.

The leading theory is that the announcement could involve Verstappen’s departure, with rumours linking him to Mercedes and, according to some reports, even McLaren. Such a move would mark the end of an era and could be made possible by an exit clause reportedly included in the Red Bull driver’s contract.

Adding fuel to the speculation is the meeting between Red Bull Racing team principal Laurent Mekies, Jos Verstappen, and Raymond Vermeulen following the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Reports suggested the atmosphere was far from positive regarding the future of the partnership between the four-time world champion and the Austrian team. We covered Verstappen urging urgent Red Bull changes just recently.

It is also unclear whether Buxton is referring to an announcement in Formula 1 or perhaps in IndyCar. While the Brit does have a background in Formula 1, his current job is to cover IndyCar for the American network Fox.

Buxton has been vocal about F1’s problems in 2026

Buxton has not been shy this season. He has argued that Formula 1 is at a turning point and risks losing part of its identity: “Formula 1 needs a reality check right now. They’ve gone down a path to bring new manufacturers in, but have they sacrificed some of the soul of the sport? I’d argue they have.”

He has also weighed in on the driver landscape. Buxton argued that drivers such as Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso have been holding out for regulations that play to their strengths again, and questioned whether it could mean retirement for the champions if they do not get on with the new 2026 cars. Up To Speed and What Comes Next

On 10 February 2026, Buxton started the F1 podcast “Up To Speed” featuring co-hosts David Coulthard, Naomi Schiff and Jolie Sharpe. The podcast is available on Global Player, YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts and other audio platforms.

The show has quickly become a must-listen for F1 fans. Buxton’s insider contacts clearly remain strong. Today’s hint proves that. It is all speculation, of course, since Buxton offers no further hints. However, plenty of people are responding to his post and referencing Verstappen’s situation. Buxton’s followers expect that the anticipated announcement will indeed be about the former Formula 1 world champion.

Whatever the news turns out to be, one thing is clear. Will Buxton is still one of the most plugged-in voices in motorsport. And today, all eyes are on him.
