Single Hypercar Platform from 2030

A unified Hypercar technical platform from 2030 will reshape the FIA WEC’s top class.

From 2030, the FIA WEC will introduce a single Hypercar technical platform, unifying today’s LMH and LMDh concepts into one global ruleset. The new framework aims to stabilise costs, strengthen manufacturer identity and secure long‑term growth for endurance racing’s premier category.

A unified future for hypercar

During the annual 24 Hours of Le Mans press conference, the FIA, ACO and IMSA confirmed that the Hypercar class will transition to a single Hypercar technical platform from 2030. The unified ruleset will merge elements of both current LMH and LMDh regulations, creating one global standard for the FIA WEC and IMSA.

Manufacturers will still be free to develop fully bespoke prototypes or work with an approved chassis supplier, maintaining flexibility while reducing overall programme costs.

Rear-Wheel drive, Hybrid power

All Hypercars built under the 2030 regulations will be rear‑wheel‑drive and hybrid‑powered. Hybrid systems may be purchased from a designated supplier or developed in‑house, provided they meet the unified specification. Power output will rise by roughly 20 kW, while engine architecture and displacement remain unrestricted.

Updated FIA safety standards will apply to all chassis, ensuring the next generation of Hypercars meets the latest structural and crash‑test requirements.

Stronger Brand Identity

The FIA WEC will continue to embrace its tradition of design freedom. Manufacturers are encouraged to integrate distinctive styling cues into their prototypes, enhancing visual identity and strengthening the marketing value of each programme.

Homologation will last at least five years, with no performance evolution allowed unless tied to reliability, safety or a significant competitive deficit.

What this means for manufacturers

The shift to a single platform is expected to simplify long‑term planning for both current and prospective entrants. With one global ruleset, brands can run the same car in both FIA WEC and IMSA without costly parallel development. This reduces engineering overhead, streamlines logistics and makes endurance racing more attractive for new OEMs evaluating a Hypercar programme.

For existing manufacturers, the stability of a five‑year homologation window provides a predictable environment to justify investment and secure internal support.

For fans, the unified platform should lead to larger grids, closer racing and more diverse manufacturer representation. With reduced barriers to entry, the FIA WEC aims to maintain the momentum of its booming Hypercar era, ensuring that the top class remains competitive, technologically relevant and visually distinctive.

The alignment between FIA, ACO and IMSA also strengthens the global endurance racing ecosystem, making cross‑series participation smoother and more appealing.

Stability and growth

The goal of the unified platform is clear: provide existing and future manufacturers with a stable, cost‑controlled environment while supporting the continued expansion of the Hypercar class.

“Everyone wants to go in the same direction,” said FIA WEC CEO Frédéric Lequien. “The direction is clear, everybody agrees and it makes sense.”
