Tsolov Takes Spielberg Win as Title Shifts
A dominant F2 Feature Race win for Tsolov reshapes the championship fight in Austria.
The F2 Feature Race Spielberg delivered drama from start to finish on Sunday morning at the Red Bull Ring. Red Bull junior Nikola Tsolov claimed a pivotal feature race victory, with the MP Motorsport duo of Gabriele Minì and Oliver Goethe rounding out the podium. After a chaotic sprint race on Saturday, the title fight has never looked more intense.
F2 Feature Race Spielberg: What Happened in the Race
Campos Racing’s Noel León led the field from pole position, as second-placed Alex Dunne slipped down, ceding his place to Nikola Tsolov at the start. But further down the field, chaos had already started as two of Saturday’s podium sitters, Sebastian Montoya and Rafael Villagómez, came together at Turn 3. Joshua Dürksen had gone across the track and forced Villagómez into Montoya, sending the pair into the gravel and ending their race early.
Tsolov was in the lead of the race by the time the Safety Car came out, and he led the field to green ahead of León and Minì. The pit stop phase brought its own twists. León and Tsolov pitted together, with Minì taking the lead of the race ahead of his MP Motorsport teammate Goethe.
On Lap 27, the Virtual Safety Car came out for Mari Boya, who pulled off to the side of the track with a mechanical issue, the back of his PREMA Racing car on fire. Inthraphuvasak and Nico Varrone were the final two drivers to pit on Lap 31, allowing Tsolov to slot into the lead of the race with Minì, Dunne and Câmara behind.
It was Goethe who jumped past to take third place with three laps to go. Out in front, it was an unstoppable Tsolov who came home to win the race by 3.9 seconds, with Minì second and Goethe third. Câmara finished fourth ahead of Inthraphuvasak, Martinius Stenshorne, and Dunne.

Updated 2026 F2 Championship Standings After Spielberg
The Spielberg weekend ended with Nikola Tsolov’s fourth win of the season, his third in a Feature Race, as he increasingly establishes himself as a key contender in this championship. After the Feature Race, just two points now separate Tsolov from championship leader Minì. That is incredibly tight with half the season still to run.
Gabriele Minì crossed the finish line in second place and remains at the top of the championship standings, but with just a two-point advantage over Tsolov. Rounding out the podium was the other MP Motorsport car of Oliver Goethe, meaning the Dutch team closes the gap to Campos at the top of the constructors’ standings.
It was also a strong race for Rafael Camara, who finished fourth after receiving a post-race penalty in Saturday’s Sprint Race, which had dropped him out of the points. In the teams’ championship, MP Motorsport is gaining ground on leader Campos Racing thanks to their double podium finish in the Feature Race.
It was a full weekend of action in Austria. On Saturday, John Bennett stormed to his first F2 victory in the sprint race, taking the chequered flag after a last-lap overtake on Sebastian Montoya. You can read more about that exciting race in our piece on Bennett’s Sprint Race win in Spielberg, and learn more about the British driver in his John Bennett F2 driver profile.
Looking Ahead: The F2 Title Fight Heats Up
With just two points between Minì and Tsolov, this F2 championship is wide open. It was a very solid weekend for Gabriele Minì overall, who finished fifth on Saturday and stepped onto the podium on Sunday, securing his seventh podium of the season in just twelve races. He is consistent and tough to beat. But Tsolov is clearly the fastest driver in the field right now.
The next round of the F2 Feature Race series heads to Silverstone in Great Britain in early July. That should suit the smooth, high-speed nature of Tsolov’s driving style. Minì will need to be at his very best to protect his slim lead.
Meanwhile, the Austrian Grand Prix weekend has been full of drama at every level. Red Bull issued a health update on Max Verstappen after his frightening qualifying crash, and George Russell took a controversial pole position at the Red Bull Ring. It has been quite a weekend in Spielberg for everyone.
